Bizarro∙sephiroth

Battle[edit | edit source]

The statistics vary based on various things the party has done before the fight commences. Bizarro∙Sephiroth’s base stats are listed in the table, valid for the one party battle and the main battles for two or three parties.

Body part Base HP Modifiers
Main Body 40,000 + 5,000 for each character at L99 + 60,000 if Knights of the Round was used on Jenova∙SYNTHESIS
Head 2000 + 250 for each character at L99
Core 10,000 + 1,250 for each character at L99
Right Magic 4,000 + 500 for each character at L99
Left Magic 4,000 + 500 for each character at L99
Total
Minimum 60,000
Maximum 180,000

Aeris is not counted, so even if she reaches level 99, it will not affect Bizarro∙Sephiroth’s HP.

Only Bizarro∙Sephiroth’s Core and Body have turns, while the Head and Magic limbs regularly revive and modify the attacks the Body uses; the Left Magic enables Fire3 and Quake3, while the Right Magic enables Ice3 and Bolt3. The Magics have low HP, but they absorb their respective elements. When both the Head and Core are alive, the Body can attack the party with Stigma, which always inflicts and , and a single party member with Sephiroth Shock. When the Core is defeated and the Head is alive, the Body can use to reduce the party’s HP to 1. Aurora Fence may be used while the Head is defeated, which removes all status effects from all party members and revives any under KO status will a small amount of HP. The move targeting the party instead of Bizarro∙Sephiroth is likely an oversight.

The Core is invincible as long as the Magics are alive, and will use Bizzarro Enegy to restore roughly 6,000 HP to the Body every turn, as well as whenever a Magic is revived. The Head’s and Body’s MP are also restored to full at the beginning of every turn.

If fighting Bizarro∙Sephiroth with two parties, each Magic limb and the Core will be split into two parts. Cloud’s party will attack the right side, while the other party attacks the left side. The Magics will cast their offensive spells in addition to status inflicting spells. The Left Magic in this scenario enables Demi3 and absorbs Gravity attacks instead of using Quake3 and absorbing Earth.

Fighting with three parties works similarly, except Cloud’s party is back in the center, and the Core has three parts. The Left Magic here will absorb Ice and Lightning attacks. Whenever the Head is defeated in the center, the attacking party member will be hit with Demi3.

The battle ends when the Body is destroyed. Afterwards, the party fights Safer∙Sephiroth.

The Quadra Magic Ultima glitch involves casting Ultima against Bizarro∙Sephiroth with Quadra Magic, while the Ultima Materia is also linked to HP Absorb or MP Absorb. Casting Ultima with this setup may freeze the game.

Strategyedit | edit source

A few casts of Ultima, or a summon or two of one of the summons, can destroy Bizarro∙Sephiroth’s limbs, leaving only the Core and the Body.

The Enemy Skills and can hit the Magics, the Head, and the Body for big damage without being absorbed. The player can use them to quickly eliminate all parts of Bizarro∙Sephiroth with the exception of the Body.

The party should use , and or to heal while attacking the Body. The Head will regenerate, but it can be killed again easily. As long as the player kills off Right Magic and Left Magic, Bizarro∙Sephiroth is not too difficult to beat.

Alternatively, the Core and the Body can be killed instantly using the Enemy Skill , which it is not protected against, though it is a gamble. Another easy way to end the battle is to summon Knights of Round.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Sephiroth is the only warrior of Chaos who summons his weapon in a cutscene, and does so in a flash of light like the warriors of Cosmos. The other warriors of Chaos are never shown summoning their weapons, and usually carry them around.
  • Like Cloud and Squall, Sephiroth’s ultimate weapon in Dissidia shares its name with a Keyblade—in this case, the Keyblade Sora gets after the Coliseum battle against Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts Final Mix.
  • Sephiroth is one of three warriors of Chaos when defeated in Shade Impulse to fade away in light instead of shadows, the only others being Jecht and Kuja. Coincidentally, all three have a slightly more friendly relationship to their rivals in Dissidia NT (although to a far lesser extent in the case of Cloud and Sephiroth).
  • Although Sephiroth’s pre-battle line to Cloud in Dissidia, as noted above, is a reference to what he said to Zack in the Nibelheim Incident flashback at Shinra Mansion, it also foreshadows the reveal in Dissidia 012 that Cloud had defected from the Warriors of Chaos to the Warriors of Cosmos in order to save Tifa from Sephiroth, but also was inflicted with amnesia as a result of the reviving nature of the various cycles of war.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Sephiroth and Cloud’s final confrontation.

Co-director Naoki Hamaguchi had asked scenario writer Kazushige Nojima if they can have a fight against Sephiroth in Midgar. Because Sephiroth’s first true appearance in the original is in a different location, Nojima thought players might not be too happy. Though Hamaguchi had prepared things to convince Nojima, he agreed on the spot.

Cloud’s final confrontation against Sephiroth is on a barren field against the background of a starry sky. This is intended to represent the theme(s) of the entirety of Final Fantasy VII. The final cinematic confrontation plays like the final cinematic boss of Final Fantasy VII, using the same angles and posing.

Story[edit | edit source]

Sephirot, the Fiend bound.

Sephirot was created near the end of the Third Astral Era by the collective faith of a tree-like race from a tree that they revered in Meracydia to repel invaders from the Allagan Empire. Though powerful, Sephirot was captured and imprisoned with his fellow Warring Triad in Azys Lla, where advanced Allagan technology drains his power while keeping his physical form intact. The Allagans learned Sephirot can induce growth in both himself and other living organisms, using it created many of their bio-engineered creatures. After the Allagan Empire fell, the Warring Triad remained in suspended animation for centuries until the actions of Archbishop Thordan VII weakened their seals with Sephirot the first to nearly escape imprisonment.

Sephirot is defeated by the Warrior of Light.

Guided by Unukalhai, the Warrior of Light and Krile venture to Containment Bay S1T7 to unseal and defeat Sephirot before he can escape and unleash unthinkable catastrophe. After the group wins, Unukalhai tells Sephirot’s history before giving the warrior an Allagan tomestone containing data on Sephirot as he existed during the Third Astral Era. Using the tomestone at a terminal in Azys Lla will create a simulation battle based on this data, allowing one to experience a fight against Sephirot at his full strength.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

In an early version of the game script, the Sephiroth-clones were not people, but, rather, parts of Jenova floating in the air covered by their cloaks. During important plot points they would reveal themselves to be pieces of Jenova’s body: her right arm, heart, etc. They also replaced Sephiroth in several scenes, such as the pivotal one in the Forgotten City.

At one point, Red XIII fears he might be a Sephiroth-clone due to being given a number by Professor Hojo. This is untrue as the number was given to him in an unrelated experiment. In actuality, he was captured by Hojo more than three years after the Sephiroth-clones were created, confirmed by the Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega. His tattoo also uses the Roman numeral, while dialogue implies (and seen visibly in Final Fantasy VII Remake) that the clones use Arabic numerals. In the original game the clones revealed no number higher than 12, while in Final Fantasy VII Remake the highest number seen is 49. This may be an allusion to the number 7 (7×7=49).

Non-Final Fantasy guest appearances[edit | edit source]

Ehrgeiz: God Bless the Ringedit | edit source

The Masamune is a 2-handed sword within the Forsaken Dungeon that provides 98 Weapon Atk, 8 Durability, +7 Magic Atk, -3 Speed, and -2 Consumption Rate. Only Masuda Koji can equip it. Sephiroth can wield the Masamune during Arcade Mode.

Kingdom Hearts seriesedit | edit source

summons the Masamune as he acts as personified darkness. While frequently engaging Cloud in battle, Sephiroth also battles Sora first as a trial in the Colosseum and then on his own interest. In both encounters Sephiroth wields the Masamune in his off hand, following the trend of the principle Final Fantasy cast seeming to give Sora various handicaps in their battles.

In Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and its remake, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, the One-Winged Angel Keyblade is modeled after Sephiroth’s Masamune.

Profile[edit | edit source]

Appearanceedit | edit source

In the original Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, Sephiroth’s default appearance is based on his appearance in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII with some changes to resemble Yoshitaka Amano’s artwork of him; his belt is ornate and decorated with beads, he wears a bracelet with similar beads on his right wrist, and his pauldrons have a different design. He wears white and lavender sashes under his coat, both a reference to Amano’s design and to his wings as Safer∙Sephiroth‎.

Sephiroth’s first alternate outfit, «Executioner», is based on his appearance in the final scripted battle in Final Fantasy VII, leaving him shirtless with black pants being colored lighter than the original.

Sephiroth’s second alternate outfit, «Custom Coat», is based on his Tetsuya Nomura artwork for Final Fantasy VII. He wears a less elaborate coat with no sashes or beads, a different belt with the original SOLDIER logo, differently styled bangs and different pauldrons.

Like Cloud and Squall, Sephiroth’s , «Kingdom Hearts Gear», is his appearance from the first Kingdom Hearts. Sephiroth’s coat flares out behind him and has a tattered appearance. The linings of his coat are red, and he has red wing-like protrusions from his wrists. His hair and pauldrons are styled in the same manner as his Final Fantasy VII alt outfit, and he has a higher collar. Sephiroth’s wing, which is always present in Kingdom Hearts, is only present in his EX Mode, and is dark blue and black with a stylized design. This outfit is available for download on the PlayStation Store.

His manikin version, Imaginary Champion, is light blue.

Personalityedit | edit source

Lua error in package.lua at line 80: module ‘Dev:Arguments’ not found.
Much like his appearance in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth is calm and detached. He is disinterested in the battle between Cosmos and Chaos, preferring to only fight to test the other warriors (with the exception of Cloud), and work toward his own goals. Sephiroth is insightful, aware of Golbez’s true intentions, and knowing of his own nature as a tool in the cycles of war.

In Dissidia Final Fantasy Cecil Harvey notes sorrow in Sephiroth’s eyes. Whenever he is defeated, Sephiroth seems to accept defeat, as he always calmly remarks, «I’ll fall into the shadows,». When he is defeated by the Warrior of Light, he asks if the Warrior participates in the war because he enjoys battle, implying Sephiroth himself enjoys it. This is reinforced in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy when Kefka mentions that Sephiroth was made for combat.

In Dissidia 012, Sephiroth does not possess many memories, and desires to fight Cloud to regain them. To his frustration, he cannot do so due to the warriors of Chaos forbidding him to fight against one another. Under Kefka’s guidance he attacks Tifa, though disappointed she does not remember him. Following Cloud’s intervention, he swears that he will have his revenge regardless of their circumstances.

Story[edit | edit source]

On the Way to a Smileedit | edit source

In «Lifestream: Black», it is revealed that Sephiroth tried to create an avatar of himself, but as his memories are fragmented he is unable to. Sephiroth searches the Lifestream for other memories, and uses them to craft the three remnants to search for Jenova so he may be fully reborn. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete establishes that the Remnants are less than two weeks old chronologically during the time they attack Edge.

Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Storyedit | edit source

After battling the Turks on the Great Glacier, Kadaj pursues Evan and Kyrie into a crevasse that opens up beneath the snow, leading to a mako cavern that contains the dead bodies of Annette and the test subjects. Among the possessions Evan finds on her body is a small piece of Jenova’s still-living flesh wrapped in a handkerchief; Evan kicks it into the lifestream and Kadaj dives in after it, dissolving.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Childrenedit | edit source

The remnants manifest at the Northern Cave.

All three remnants manifest together in the Northern Cave, where they ambush the Turks and capture Tseng and Elena while Reno and Rude escape with a box containing Jenova’s cells.

The remnants travel to the outskirts of Midgar, where they attack Cloud. Afterward, they interrogate Rufus about the whereabouts of Jenova. In the city of Edge, the remnants kidnap several children with Geostigma, a disease caused by an infection of Jenova cells, and take them to the Forgotten City, where Kadaj activates their latent «reunion instinct.»

With the children’s ability to sense Jenova’s presence, they lead the remnants back to Edge, and the trio attacks the city to force Rufus to reveal where he has hidden Jenova. Rufus reveals Jenova’s remains under his cloak during the battle, which Kadaj salvages. In the ensuing chain of events Loz and Yazoo are apparently killed, and Cloud battles Kadaj alone. Desperate, Kadaj absorbs Jenova’s cells, allowing Sephiroth to take control of his body and reshape it into his own image.

After Sephiroth is defeated, wounded Kadaj hears Aerith Gainsborough’s voice, whom he believes to be Jenova. Aerith comforts him and calls down healing rain, and Kadaj, while reaching for a hand only he can see, allows himself to dissolve into the lifestream. Loz and Yazoo unwillingly follow soon after, attempting a final attack on Cloud. The three remnants die, although it is unknown what this means for Sephiroth himself.

List of known Sephiroth-clones[edit | edit source]

Below is a list of every Sephiroth-clone revealed in Final Fantasy VII. This list omits several clones, as the fate of many numbered clones is never revealed or expanded upon.

  • 1: A young man around Cloud’s age. Went from North Corel to Gold Saucer. Had a tattoo on the back of his hand. Asked Dio if he had the Black Materia, as Dio later tells Cloud in the Speed Square.
  • 2: The man suffering from in Sector 5. Upon returning to Sector 5 after receiving the from Bone Village, residents report seeing him leave «mumbling something about a reunion». In Final Fantasy VII Remake, he wears a black cloak like the others, and roams about Sector 5, and near the end of the game appears in the Shinra Building to recover Jenova’s remains. He is also revealed to have been an Ex-SOLDIER by one of the children’s fathers.
  • 4: One of the people found in Nibelheim in Tifa’s House’s upstairs.
  • 5: One of the people found in Nibelheim in Tifa’s House’s entrance.
  • 6: One of the people found in Nibelheim’s inn.
  • 9: Exited from the Temple of the Ancients before dying. Had a tattoo on the back of his neck.
  • 11: One of the people found in Nibelheim in Tifa’s House’s kitchen.
  • 12: One of the people found in the Nibelheim Item Store.
  • Others: Four other clones appear in Nibelheim, but their numbers (if they had any) are not revealed. They include two clones found outside the Shinra Mansion and two tiny clones found in an attic (probably the children seen in Cloud’s flashback, given the younger one’s propensity to repeat his sister’s words). These may have been given the numbers missing from the list above (3, 7, 8, and 10).
  • Marco: Appears in Final Fantasy VII Remake and is tattooed with the number 49. He lives in the slums of Midgar, and Tifa is asked by Marle to look after him in his apartment in Sector 7. He is nearly attacked by Cloud to whom Marco appears as Sephiroth himself, but he is saved when Tifa intervenes. Marco is used several times by Sephiroth as the host for his physical appearance, eventually being used as the host body for assassinating President Shinra, and fighting the party as Jenova Dreamweaver. He is killed when Jenova’s body is.
  • Cloud Strife: The main character of Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake. Went into a vegetative state after being injected with Jenova cells and exposed to Mako, and was labeled a failure. This assumption proved false, as he regained consciousness and was controlled by Sephiroth to an extent. One of the only Clones to make it to the North Crater, but later threw off Sephiroth’s control. Does not have a number.
  • Zack Fair: The main character of Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. Was not affected by the Jenova cells, and was therefore labeled a failure. He does not have a number. In most depictions in the Final Fantasy VII series, Zack dies when gunned down by the Shinra army outside Midgar.

The Ex-SOLDIER who runs a weapon shop in Junon begins to wear a robe like the Sephiroth-clones when visited after the party has the Highwind in the original Final Fantasy VII. He states that a while ago, he felt the urge to dress like this, indicating the procedure that produced the Sephiroth-clones is the same treatment given to the members of SOLDIER.

In and around North Crater, 17 black cloaks are seen. These are likely to include the 11 surviving clones as well as others with Jenova cells. If the player were to return to Nibelheim after viewing these scenes, the clones will still be there, although this is likely an oversight as they disappear once Meteor is summoned.

Eight of the nine Nibelheim clones are named in Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story. Their names are not identified with their numbers, however the two that share a surname are likely the siblings. In the original game, the five caped characters that Cloud checks the number of he refers to as men.

The following five are confirmed dead following the events of North Crater:

  • Kaitlin Stark (ケイトリン・スタークス, Keitorin Sutākusu?)
  • Edmund Stark (エドモンド・スタークス, Edomondo Sutākusu?)
  • Trevor Schoen (トレバー・ショーン, Torebā Shōn?)
  • Ezra Monte (エズラ・モンティ, Ezura Monti?)
  • Ian Meadows (イアン・メドウス, Ian Medōsu?)

The following three’s bodies were not found:

  • Rick Fergus (リック・ファーガス, Rikku Fāgasu?)
  • Lisa Tutti (リサ・トゥッティ, Risa Tutti?)
  • Senna York (セナ・ヨーク, Sena Yōku?)

Etymology[edit | edit source]

In the Japanese version of the game Bizarro∙Sephiroth is called «Rebirth Sephiroth.» This appears to have been misunderstood by the translators as ‘reverse’, hence the English name. In the DC Comics Universe, Bizzaro is a Superman villain and the mirror image of Superman. Bizzarro means bizarre in Italian and Portuguese.

Səphīrōth (סְפִירוֹת, medieval Hebrew form of Sephirot; also spelled Sefirot), is a plural noun in Hebrew; the singular is Sephirah (also spelled Sefira). The Sephiroth are described in the Kabbalah as the manifestations of God that allow him to manifest in the physical and metaphysical universes. Sephiroth also means «counting» (of numbers).

The dot (・) is an used in Japanese to indicate that a full proper noun is two separate words. It appears in Final Fantasy VII in the boss names of Jenova’s parts and Sephiroth’s boss forms.

Musical themes[edit | edit source]

Rearranged «Battle to the Death»

Trouble with the audio sample?

A rearranged version of «Battle to the Death» from Final Fantasy VI plays in the first phase of the battle against Sephirot.

Sephirot’s second phase theme

Trouble with the audio sample?

The second part of the fight has a new theme, called «Fiend», that starts playing when Sephirot uses Ein Sof Ohr, his signature attack. It resembles «When Worlds Collide» by the American rock band Powerman 5000. After the track was released along with version 3.2, Powerman 5000’s band leader Spider One posted on the band’s official Facebook, criticizing the theme, claiming that it is a «straight up rip-off» and not just using their song as an inspiration.

Director Naoki Yoshida stated that he has been made aware of an allegation regarding similarities between these songs, but states that the track is ultimately «simply another song in the industrial rock genre, which is a popular genre that can be further divided into numerous sub-genres and countless songs from these genres have been released worldwide». Composer Masayoshi Soken also stated to Yoshida that he was unaware of «When Worlds Collide» while working on this Final Fantasy XIV track.

Natura naturansv» [256].
